White Hart RL - Win 5-a-Side
Tournament !
White Hart Ridge Lane FC
proved that rumours of their demise were premature as they claimed the
coveted annual 5-a-side tournament title that they proudly host at the
Ridge Lane Recreation Grounds on Saturday 2nd August.
White Hart RL collect the Cup
A full strength line up of over 32 teams including many
sides representing the Nuneaton and District Sunday Football League, teams
from North Warwickshire and Birmingham meant the 2008 competition was the
strongest in the 8 year history of the event. Teams including Hill
Top, Ford Oak, Crystal Palace, The Lancet, as well as teams representing
both Tamworth and Birmingham leagues turned out in force, in the hope of
taking the area's top 5-a-side title, but it was the home side who came
through the pack to pick up the crown in front of their home fans.

However, it wasn't all plain sailing for the Hart as they
were beaten 1-0 early on in the Competition by defending champions Yardley
FC and had to rely on qualifying for the knock out stages in third place
from their group. It was in the last 16 that the eventual winners began to
show their calibre as they brushed aside Sunnyside with a Chris Mullings
strike before taking out Lancet through another Mullings effort, which was
added to by Ash Albrighton for a comfortable 2-0 win, to set up a
semi-final showdown with Crystal Palace FC from the Saturday league.
The Management Team - Celebrate
In a game that was balanced on a knife edge, the Hart
showed their grit, determination and energy to take out their aggressive
opponents with Mullings again sealing the win with his fourth of the
tournament to book a final encounter with Dordon FC who relied on
penalties to take out defending champions Yardley to reach their first
final.
The two team had slugged out a 1-1 draw in the group stages
so all reasoning pointed to another tight encounter. However, in
what was a fairly one-sided final, the Hart blasted their way to the title
with two goals from Albrighton in the first half and from then on were
able to dictate the tempo for the remainder of the tie to seal their
second triumph in their home competition, and first since the first year
it was held in 2001. New manager Ricky Luke, with assistant manager
Wayne Chapman were absolutely delighted with their players and the
victory.
